Shattered Stories is a work of fiction in the fantasy and science fiction subgenre. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by author N.L. Case. The book follows the heir to House Evensong, a young woman named Harper who is struggling with her identity in a world where her duty binds her to her people yet her innate gift for the practice of storyweaving gives her hope for a more fulfilling life. As her struggle inadvertently lights the fire of revolution in her homeland, the opportunity presents itself for her to decide whether to be a princess to her people or a storyweaver.

I adore fantasy tales that find a seemingly simple twist on the standard fantasy trappings and run with it until they’ve created an exquisite world with consistent and fascinating lore in which to set their stories. Author N.L. Case demonstrates from the first page that they understand what makes fantasy literature exciting and wastes no time in absorbing the reader into the world of Arkron with its social structures and delightful magic. Harper Evensong is the perfect protagonist for a tale of this kind, uniquely positioned to experience many facets of life in Arkron as the narrative pushes her to explore herself and her own wants and needs. The result is a wonderfully fleshed-out lead character who sparkles in a tale of duty and self that will stay with readers long after the final page of Shattered Stories has been turned. An engaging and delightful read from start to finish, I recommend this book for all readers.
